We hope you had a fantastic Labor Day!

Welcome to September, now get back to work! The Fall push at work has arrived, especially for anyone on a calendar fiscal year. We need to finish all of our projects by the end of the year, do performance reviews, and plan for next year. There's so much to do at work and at home. And then there are all those holidays!

This can be a very stressful time with long hours at work, long to-do lists, a full social calendar, and not a lot of sleep. Here are five ideas on how to get through this Fall in a much healthier state.

  1. Eat Healthy Food. Give your body the healthy food it needs to do its best and avoid the unhealthy food that comes from emotional eating. Feeding yourself before you get too hungry will help you select better foods to eat and also help you to better manage your emotions and avoid getting hangry.

  2. Take a Power Nap. If you can't get enough sleep at night, you might try a power nap of 30 to 60 minutes. Power Naps are like dog years. They provide highly concentrated sleep but I think it's less than the 1:7 ratio we have with dogs. A 30-minute nap can deliver one to two hours of normal sleep and help you to wake up feeling reinvigorated and refreshed. Famous nappers include Albert Einstein, Leonardo da Vinci, Mark Cuban, Stephen King, Thomas Edison, and Winston Churchill. You're in good company.

  3. Manage Your Stress. When you get too stressed out, then it's time to go for a walk around the block, laugh, meditate, do yoga, take a few deep breaths, or socialize. This will help your body produce endorphins and other healthy responses that will make you feel better.

  4. Manage Your Workload. You can only do one thing at a time. Prioritize the important work only you can do and delegate the other important work that others can do. Anything that doesn't make these two lists will just have to wait.

  5. Stay Balanced. It's easy to focus on what is going wrong and the bad behaviors of others. Balance this by looking at what is going well and who is doing a great job. Express gratitude for the blessings in your life and use PILES of Compliments to let others know that you appreciate them.

We hope you find these ideas useful. Please contact us if you need help with any of these areas or if you could benefit from any of the many other topics we provide around health, life, career, leadership, management, public speaking, family, and relationships. A free, 30-minute, no obligation Discovery Call is the best and quickest way to determine how we can help.

We hope you have a great September filled with lots of great accomplishments that are balanced with healthy activities, good eating, and fun. And lots of important quality time with family and friends. You deserve it!
